McCain has already invested $65 million in GoodLeaf over two earlier rounds, while Power Sustainable Lios, a unit of Power Corp., the wealth management and insurance giant run by the Desmarais family, is a first time investor. Talking point: The Guelph, Ont.-based firm is the latest indoor farming company to raise funding, after Bank of Montreal got behind New York-based Gotham Greens earlier this year. So-called “vertical farming,” which utilizes indoor spaces to grow produce year-round, has been growing in popularity amid supply-chain constraints and growing worries over rising food costs.
