The Toronto-based accelerator hub is rethinking how it operates to “ensure long-term sustainability of the organization,” according to a statement from CEO Alison Nankivell. “Our path forward necessitates changes toward a more agile and lean organizational structure that reduces hierarchy and leadership roles,” Nankivell said by email. Talking point: The Globe and Mail reported Tuesday that MaRS—which relies heavily on public funding—cut about 20 positions this week, including several senior roles. Nankivell declined to comment on layoffs at the organization. Chief delivery officer Krista Jones sent an email, obtained by The Logic, to a large group of women in tech saying she will be leaving MaRS at the end of June. Jones has been at the organization for more than 15 years and served as interim CEO from January to April, before Nankivell took the helm. Jones did not disclose in the email the circumstances around her departure.
