Talking point: Markets tumbled Monday after President Trump lambasted Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell over his reluctance to cut interest rates. The uncertainty pushed the U.S. dollar to a three-year low Monday, while gold prices soared past US$3,500 an ounce for the first time Tuesday. U.S. markets rebounded across the board Tuesday, reversing the previous day’s losses after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt signalled progress in U.S.-China trade talks, saying the “ball is moving in the right direction.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, meanwhile, called the standoff with China unsustainable, and predicted a de-escalation could come very soon, according to Bloomberg.
