Ontario Superior Court Justice Anne Molloy found businessman Frank Stronach guilty of two counts related to two complainants. He will be sentenced in September. Molloy found Stronach not guilty of three other charges based on allegations from a third complainant. (CBC)
Talking point: Stronach became a billionaire by founding the auto parts firm Magna. Though he has not had ties to Magna in nearly 15 years, he continued to be active in the business world. One of the complainants was previously a waitress at a restaurant he owned. Stronach’s lawyer Leora Shemesh noted outside the courthouse that Stronach, who pleaded not guilty, was cleared of the majority of charges. The judge said there were “too many uncertainties” involving the third woman. Stronach will face another criminal sexual assault trial in May involving other complainants, who cannot be named under a publication ban. He also faces additional allegations in civil court from Jane Boon, who claims he assaulted her when she was an intern at Magna in 1986.
