The Canadian book-and-lifestyle retailer said in a statement that one of the departing board members, Dr. Chika Stacy Oriuwa, stepped down “because of her loss of confidence in board leadership and because of mistreatment.” It did not provide any reasons for the other three members, and did not immediately respond to The Logic’s request for comment. Reisman will step down as executive chair and director as of Aug. 22. (The Logic)
Talking point: In September 2022, Indigo appointed Reisman chair as Peter Ruis took over the CEO role. He is also a director on the board. Oriuwa told The Logic in a statement that “I have full confidence and respect for [Ruis], faith in his management team and executive strategy.” She declined to elaborate on her reasons for stepping down. After the departure of Reisman and the four other board members, Indigo is left with six board members, including Ruis, Reisman’s partner Gerald Schwartz, and Reisman’s daughter Andrea Johnson. The leadership change comes amid a challenging time for the retailer, which recently faced a ransomware attack that exposed sensitive data of some former and current employees, and disrupted its website and payments system.
