The Centre for Native Nation Builders will reboot the program, which Shopify launched in 2020 to support Indigenous entrepreneurs, the centre’s CEO Tracy Ridler announced on LinkedIn. Shopify shuttered the program earlier this year. “I think it’s great that we were allowed to incubate this program at Shopify,” Ridler—who co-founded the program while working at the e-commerce giant—told The Logic, “but what we’ve seen is that a corporate mandate is always going to get in the way of social impact.” (The Logic)
Talking point: Build Native 2.0 aims to give Indigenous entrepreneurs tailored support to help their businesses succeed. The program will launch in early 2026 with a retail lab and workshop space for entrepreneurs, and a store to sell their products. Ridler said the program will involve “big tech partners,” which the centre hasn’t yet named. Shopify will serve as the commerce platform for participants and give them extended free trials, though it’s not formally involved in the relaunch. “Entrepreneurship should be within reach for everyone, and we’re glad to see more programs emerging with that same goal,” Shopify spokesperson Ben McConaghy told The Logic.
