The Toronto-based last-mile delivery company said it raised $115 million in a round led by Yaletown Partners and with participation from the investment arm of Ingka Group, the holding company that also owns the majority of Ikea’s retail stores. (The Logic)
Talking point: Bolt, formerly known as Second Closet, has now raised more than $150 million. It completed a $20-million raise in March following a shift from self-storage services to business-to-business fulfilment and delivery services. It operates in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver. It will use the funds to expand in those markets and grow its staff to 1,000 by the end of the year. Bolt’s “integration of zero-emission trucks into its fleet will contribute to reaching our goal of 100 per cent zero-emission home deliveries by 2025,” said Ingka Investments’ managing director Krister Mattson in a release. Bolt plans to be carbon negative by 2023 and build Canada’s largest electric-vehicle fleet.
