The Vancouver-based social media management platform provider confirmed to The Logic that it conducted its third round of layoffs in about six months. The Globe and Mail first reported the news. Hootsuite also announced Irina Novoselsky has replaced Tom Keiser as CEO, effective immediately. (The Logic, The Globe and Mail)
Talking point: Novoselsky was the CEO of human-resources tech firm CareerBuilder. Keiser had led Hootsuite for about two-and-a-half years. The company said in an emailed statement to The Logic that the layoffs affect about seven per cent of its staff. The firm called the reductions “a difficult decision,” adding that it “will best position Hootsuite for the long term.” Hootsuite had already laid off five per cent of its workforce in November and 30 per cent in August as tech firms looked to extend their financial runway in a tightening economy. Hootsuite’s latest shakeup follows similar moves earlier this week by the Toronto-based fintech Clearco, which cut jobs and replaced co-founder Michele Romanow as CEO with Andrew Curtis, and Montreal’s Lightspeed, which laid off 300 staff or 10 per cent of its workforce.
