The Post has set up a tech subsidiary around its Arc content management system, and is pushing beyond publishing by launching versions of Arc for fields like e-commerce; users include Canadian daily newspaper The Globe & Mail. The Post has also built its own ad network technology. Prakash has played a major role in the company’s software-sales ambitions. At Google, he’ll take charge of a news business facing increasing scrutiny and new regulatory requirements. Policymakers in the U.S. and Canada want to follow Australia’s lead in requiring large digital platforms to make payments to publishers, even as the tech giants try to strike bespoke deals for services like Google News.
