The Detroit automaker scrapped its plans to make three-row electric SUVs, and will instead focus on hybrid vehicles for that segment of the market. The company previously said it was delaying production of three-row EVs in Oakville, Ont., to 2027, but it announced last month that it will make gas-powered and “multi-energy” F-Series Super Duty trucks there instead. (The Logic)
Talking point: For now, one of Ford’s major Canadian plants seems fully focused on Super Duty trucks, shutting the door on its previous ambitions to transform it into a fully EV-focused plant by 2026 as the automaker rethinks its broader electrification strategy. It is also delaying the production of an electric truck code-named “Project T3” at its Tennessee plant to the second half of 2027. The company said it will take a US$400-million writedown for manufacturing assets related to the fully electric three-row SUVs, and is budgeting up to US$1.5 billion in additional expenses.
