The gaming AI startup announced it had received backing from Radical Ventures, Toyota Ventures, the BDC Deep Tech Venture Fund, as well as Kaya and Tirta Ventures. In May, The Logic was first to report that Artificial Agency was raising a US$12-million round and had completed a US$4-million round last year. (The Logic)
Talking point: The startup’s founders previously worked at the now-shuttered Edmonton office of Google’s DeepMind unit. Artificial Agency’s technology applies generative AI to elements of gameplay including how human players interact with characters and what kinds of battles or missions they have. The firm says it’s already working with studios that produce AAA titles, the most expensive games to make and market. Tech giants like Nvidia and Ubisoft are already rolling out AI-informed non-playable characters, which promise more lifelike and engaged back-and-forth than the scripted interactions currently available.
