The San Francisco-based internet-hosting and -security firm said Saturday it blocked the online forum known for hateful content, amid increasing harassment on the site, particularly towards transgender YouTuber and Twitch streamer Clara Sorrenti. “Over the last two weeks, we have proactively reached out to law enforcement in multiple jurisdictions highlighting what we believe are potential criminal acts and imminent threats to human life that were posted to the site,” CEO Matthew Prince said in a blog post. (The Logic)

Talking point: Russian internet infrastructure provider DDoS-Guard has since also blocked Kiwi Farms after receiving multiple complaints. Cloudflare’s move is a reversal of Prince’s earlier statement likening blocking the website to a phone company terminating “your line if you say awful, racist bigoted things.” After being stalked and harassed by Kiwi Farms users, Sorenti fled her home in Canada and moved to Europe, but the attacks didn’t stop. This isn’t the first time Cloudflare has blocked websites that promote hate and harassment. In 2019, the company dropped 8chan after a suspected shooter who killed 22 people in El Paso, Texas, posted his plans to carry out the attack on the anonymous message board.
