Talking point: Though the Toronto-founded fintech struggled to keep up with rising demands after the COVID-19 pandemic and downsized, Macquarie’s Eli Nafisi said in a press release that it believes Clearco has the right model to operate “at scale.” Companies like Shopify and Square have adopted an approach similar to how Clearco uses sales data as the basis for e-commerce funding. The company has since been trying to chart a new growth path; it was on track for a 50 per cent increase in the value of capital advances it offered last year, and now hopes to extend deals to clients of up to $10 million each.
