Talking point: It appears to be the first time China has detained someone over their use of ChatGPT under new rules regulating the use of deepfake technology. The AI tool is available in China only through a VPN, with state media reporting it can be used for “political propaganda.” The man, whom the report identifies only by his surname, Hong, is accused of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble,” which typically has a maximum five-year sentence but that maximum can rise to 10 years with additional penalties in severe cases.
