Talking point: Wilkins’ appointment lends credibility to CADD as it competes for market share in the emerging market for crypto tokens pegged to the value of the Canadian dollar. Canadian regulators—including the Bank of Canada—are developing regulations for stablecoins in response to the 2025 U.S. GENIUS Act, which could pave the way for companies ranging from Walmart to big banks to issue their own stablecoins. CADD is backed by a consortium of investors that also includes Shopify, Wealthsimple and Purpose Investments. So far, adoption of CADD is limited. About $4,200 worth of CADD changed hands in the past 24 hours, according to data from Toronto blockchain consulting firm w2d, compared with U.S. stablecoin giant Tether’s US$50 billion in volume over the same period.
