Talking point: Last month Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu took the unusual step of ordering a vote on Canada Post’s ‘best and final offer’ in an effort to wrap up the drawn-out labour negotiations, which included a Christmas-season strike last year. Canada Post said customers have had to adjust their business operations to adapt to the uncertainty. More than 53,000 employees will be able to weigh in individually starting July 21 on the offer Canada Post put forward in May, which was rejected by the union. The union hopes to bring the Crown corporation back to the bargaining table, and says it’ll maintain its ban on overtime but won’t launch rotating or full-scale strikes during negotiations.
