Talking point: The fuel cells function as onsite, low-emissions power systems for AI data centres. The deal positions Silicon Valley-based Bloom as a key partner in Brookfield’s plan to build AI factories around the world, designed to meet surging demand for computing and energy infrastructure. The firm plans to invest US$200 billion in the facilities. Power demand from AI data centres in the U.S. alone is expected to grow from four gigawatts in 2024 to 123 gigawatts by 2035. Fuel cells like the ones Bloom builds can be set up onsite to power data centres without having to access outside power grids, which are expected to become increasingly strained.
