The London-based venture capital firm’s fifth fund raised money from institutional investors, as well as founders and early employees of firms including Spotify, Skype and TransferWise. (The Logic)
Talking point: This new venture fund, one of Europe’s largest, is a further sign of the continent’s burgeoning tech industry. Atomico, which now has US$2.7 billion in assets under management, has already used money from this new fund to invest in several firms including urban farming company Infarm and child-care platform Koru Kids. Eleven of its portfolio firms have since reached unicorn status. It’s not the only investor looking to get into the European tech market. OMERS Ventures opened a London office and a $455-million fund last year. In 2019, U.S. firms were on track to invest into European firms about US$10 billion, or a third of the total, double the portion from four years prior.
