Talking point: These first three hospitals are a beachhead from which Apple plans to expand. The firm is also launching the feature in the U.K. today, and currently has over 500 institutions signed up in the U.S. Its long-term goal is to gather all of an individual’s medical records on their iPhone and allow doctors to send push notifications with news like tests results. Apple enters Canada at a time when health-technology firms are growing rapidly. PwC Canada estimates that the domestic digital health market is currently worth over $5 billion, and that digital health spending will more than double globally by 2030.
