Talking point: The cutbacks represent about 10 per cent of some 83 million sq. ft. Amazon planned to add to its U.S. footprint this year, according to MWPVL International. It expects Amazon to shave its estimated 2022 expansion plans in the country in half, or more than 30 million sq. ft. Amazon declined to comment to The Information, but the company said during its most recent earnings that it has “too much space” after doubling the size of its operations during the pandemic. The e-commerce behemoth has grown quickly to meet demand and offer fast delivery times. In Canada, its distribution network was on track to approach 20 million sq. ft. this year.
