The provincial government signed a letter of intent with oil and gas giant Enbridge to accelerate production on the company’s 29,000 kilometers of pipeline, Premier Danielle Smith said at a press conference Monday. Smith said the Albertan government has reached out to other oil and gas companies to pursue similar deals. She also outlined plans for a working group with the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission, expanding oil and gas pipeline networks and collaborating with Canada’s energy regulation. The government’s goal is to double the amount of oil Alberta produces, Smith said. (The Logic)

Talking point: Smith touted Alberta’s oil and gas strength, noting the province exports 4.3 million barrels of oil per day and fuels 50 U.S. based refineries. “One of our tasks, in Alberta, is to make the [U.S.] administration understand that for them to achieve global energy dominance, they need a partner,” Smith said, noting that the province accounts for 56 per cent of total U.S oil imports.
