Talking point: The government will exhaust its supply of bebtelovimab as soon as the week of Aug. 22 and doesn’t have the funds to purchase more. Eli Lilly entered into an agreement to supply the U.S. government with an additional 150,000 doses in late June. Vancouver-based biotech AbCellera collaborated with Eli Lilly to develop the COVID-19 antibody—its second during the partnership. The first, bamlanivimab, was widely used in the U.S. but not in Canada. AbCellera earns royalties on sales of its co-developed therapies, which have significantly boosted its revenue.
