The San Jose, Calif.-based firm disclosed in a filing on Wednesday that EY had resigned as its auditor over concerns over the information its management and board had been providing. Super Micro’s share price fell 32.7 per cent on Wednesday. (The Logic)
Talking point: Super Micro makes hardware for data centres around the world, including servers containing Nvidia’s in-demand AI chips. The firm reported net sales of US$14.9 billion in its fiscal year ended June 30, more than double the previous year. In mid-March, Super Micro’s stock was added to the S&P 500 Index, after a huge runup in its share price at the start of the year. But it’s since surrendered all of those gains amid late regulatory filings and short-seller attacks. The U.S. Justice Department is reportedly investigating the company after a former employee alleged accounting violations. Super Micro said it disagreed with EY’s decision to resign, and that a special board committee is reviewing the firm’s internal controls and governance.
