Talking point: Shopify continues to be bullish about growth; my colleague Murad reported earlier this week that Shopify now has 4,000 employees, up from 632 just three and a half years ago. Toronto-based Craig Miller, Shopify’s chief product officer, is one of the only C-suite executives outside Ottawa. This will be a significant boost for his team, which includes Channels, a product group that forms partnerships with tech platforms through which merchants can sell. It’s a key division for the future of the company, which is trying to grow merchants’ revenue by expanding to traditional retail and adding more partners. Shopify plans to make 450 new hires on its research and development staff in the city, which also houses teams from its Plus and Start divisions.
