Talking point: Bumble is the only major dating app that isn’t owned by Match Group, the parent company of Tinder, OkCupid and—as of just last week—Hinge (other than Facebook Dating, which started rolling out late last year). Tinder, Bumble’s closest competitor, has over 50 million users and 3.8 million paying subscribers. Bumble has over 40 million users; over two million are paying subscribers. In March 2018, following an attempt to acquire Bumble the summer prior, Match sued the company, alleging intellectual-property theft. Bumble filed its own patent-infringement suit 10 days later, saying Match pretended to be interested in acquisition to gain access to its privileged information, but later dropped the countersuit.
