Talking point: Tait made the comments in front of Stéphane Cardin, Netflix’s director of public policy for Canada, who shook his head in response, according to The Canadian Press. When contacted after the panel by The Logic, Netflix declined to comment. Tait, appointed in April 2018, is the first woman to head the public broadcaster. At the time of her appointment, she said she wanted the broadcaster to think digital in the face of “significant competitive pressure.” The CBC has stood alongside Canadian telecoms in pushing the federal government to require streaming services like Netflix to follow the same rules that they have to obey, such as Canadian content quotas. Just last week, Netflix argued against those calls in a submission to a CRTC panel, claiming that the company already contributes significantly Canadian production content.
