Talking point: The council surveyed 2,300 Canadians and found that while 62 per cent said the country should prioritize economic immigration, less than half felt immigration was good for the economy. The report, published Wednesday, cites Canada’s low productivity as a sign of a flawed immigration system. “Future prosperity requires that the Canadian economy generate more value,” it reads, “not just because there are more of us, but because each one of us is better off.” Changing the points system may alter the balance of immigrants’ source countries, favouring some over others. “That doesn’t mean a reformed points system creates bias,” it reads. “It just replaces one bias with another.”
