Angel investor Jesse Wiebe receives conditional discharge after pleading guilty to indecent act

Saskatchewan provincial court judge Bria Huculak granted Wiebe 12 months of probation for committing an indecent act by unlawfully entering an apartment naked on May 17. Wiebe will avoid a criminal record if he complies with conditions including 25 hours of community service, counselling, writing an apology letter and abstaining from alcohol and drugs. (The Logic)

Talking point: Wiebe is a prominent startup investor who helped build Startup TNT’s angel investing programs before launching the Canadian Startup Capital Association, an advocacy group focused on federal startup financing policy. In a letter filed with the court, he apologized to the apartment’s occupants and took “full responsibility” for his actions. Wiebe said he had remained sober since the incident while undergoing counselling. His lawyer declined The Logic’s request for comment following the judge’s decision. A character statement from Greater Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce CEO Jason Aebig described Wiebe as “a driving force within StartUp TNT,” and “known for his integrity, boundless energy, generosity of spirit and willingness to invest his time and energy in the success of others.”
