Talking point: Carney was scheduled to arrive in Jeddah on Wednesday night—the first Canadian prime minister visiting Saudi Arabia since Jean Chrétien in 2000. Diplomatic relations have been thawing amid Carney’s efforts to diversify trade away from the U.S. The Prime Minister’s Office said he will meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss expanding trade and investment, including in AI, cleantech, mining and life sciences. Sidhu, who visited the Middle Eastern kingdom in January, said its US$900-billion sovereign wealth fund is “very keen on mining operations.”
