Justice Sheldon Lanchbery said startup founder Susan Bonk was motivated by “personal animus” when she accused Riley, CEO of Richardson Financial Group, of sexually harassing and assaulting her. Bonk told The Globe and Mail she plans to appeal the decision. (The Logic, The Globe and Mail)
Talking point: Bonk claimed Riley assaulted her on four occasions and used his position as chair of Galton—the parent firm of Bonk’s startup Precision Weather Solutions—to try and get her fired after she rejected his advances. Riley denied the claims. The judge concluded that Bonk was not credible, and that she filed the lawsuit to recover money from Riley and “destroy his reputation in the eyes of the general public.” Bonk had also sued Galton board members Charles Loewen, William Watchorn and Robert Silver for alleged negligence and breaching their fiduciary duties. Those claims were dismissed in 2025.
