Talking point: Woods is widely credited with helping build Google’s workforce in Canada and, in the process, the Kitchener-Waterloo tech ecosystem. He joined Google’s tiny KW office in 2008, growing it from 20 to more than 1,300 in the region. Woods helped the Silicon Valley behemoth integrate into the tightknit scene by forging relationships with local leaders, and offering co-ops, funding and mentorship to startups. Woods joins fellow Google alumnus Patrick Pichette as partner at the VC firm. Pichette, now Twitter’s board chair, joined Inovia in 2015. The firm manages nearly $1.9 billion across five active funds.
