Talking point: DoorDash is already the largest player in the U.S. food-delivery market, with about 45 per cent market share as of June, ahead of Uber Eats and Grubhub. In July, Uber launched a grocery-delivery service and announced plans to acquire Postmates. Uber is offering delivery in partnership with large grocery chains. DoorDash is leasing its own stores and will sell everything from ice cream and medicine to frozen meals from local restaurants. That could be a lifeline for the restaurant sector, which has been hard hit by the pandemic. It also gives DoorDash a new revenue stream beyond being the middleman for delivery between restaurants and customers.
