Talking point: The comments suggest Trump has not backed down from his post on Truth Social on Friday afternoon, when he wrote that he would hold Canada accountable for the costs of wildfire smoke by adding to trade tariffs. Carney said on social media Sunday morning that he met with wildfire response teams in Ottawa and that the government is “mobilizing” 5,000 firefighters and nearly 300 aircraft. Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who has faced political pressure over Ontario’s firefighting budget, called Trump’s comments “rubbish” but said the country needs a national firefighting strategy.
