UPS has agreed to buy Andlauer Healthcare Group (AHG) for $55 per share in cash, a 31 per cent premium on the medical supply chain management company’s Wednesday closing price of $41.96 per share. Founder Michael Andlauer, who also owns the NHL team, is expected to lead UPS Canada Healthcare and AHG once the deal closes. (The Logic)
Talking point: AHG will give UPS more access to temperature-controlled facilities and the means to transport medical products that need to stay cold in transit. AHG played an important role in transporting COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic. Andlauer owns 53.2 per cent of AHG’s outstanding shares, setting him up for a big payday once the deal closes. UPS executive vice president Kate Gutmann said the acquisition fits with the logistics giant’s growth plans as it looks to expand its health-care supply chain business.
