Talking point: The pledge comes days before global investors and executives arrive in Toronto for the Canada Investment Summit. The event—organized by the federal government, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP)—is part of Ottawa’s efforts to attract $1 trillion in investment over the next five years. Pressure has been mounting on pension funds to invest more in Canadian assets as a way to help hit that target. Ontario Teachers’ is the latest Canadian pension fund to commit to growing its domestic portfolio. In April, the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System said it aims to add $10 billion in Canadian investments to its $152-billion fund over five years, and PSP announced earlier this week that it plans to increase its domestic holdings by 30 to 40 per cent to surpass $100 billion.
