Talking point: The Danish pharma company now sells Poviztra in India through a local partnership with Emcure, explicitly calling it a “second brand” of Wegovy. Novo Nordisk spokesperson Kate Hanna told The Globe and Mail the company might decide to use the repackaged versions to compete with generic versions of Ozempic and Wegovy that could hit the Canadian market later this year now that an exclusivity period for the originals has lapsed. Health Canada approvals for multiple competitors’ products, which are synthesized through different processes from Novo Nordisk’s, are in progress.
