Talking point: Civil liberties advocates objected to the police powers; cybersecurity advocates said a provision requiring service providers to install digital taps in their systems would have been dangerous. Anandasangaree said the old Bill C-2 will stay on the Commons agenda because authorities need the “lawful access” rights to digital information it would have given them—but MPs will be able to consider and possibly amend those without holding up the other parts.
