The Burnaby, B.C.-based firm has bought Manchester-based competitor ShareDo, in a deal that will give Clio access to large legal clients. The company did not disclose terms of the deal, including how much it paid for ShareDo. Chief technology officer Jonathan Watson said the acquisition is Clio’s biggest to date by deal size and employee count. (The Logic)
Talking point: ShareDo CEO Ben Nicholson will become general manager of Clio’s ShareDo platform. The U.K. business already has some clients in Canada, and Clio—which offers cloud-based software to help law firms manage tasks—plans to expand that pool. The acquisition follows Clio’s record-breaking US$900-million venture capital fundraise last July that valued the firm at US$3 billion. The investment round gave it cash to grow the business, including through acquiring companies like ShareDo, without going public, as it had initially planned to do.
