Enbridge aims to have the upgraded “T-South” section of its Westcoast pipeline in service in November 2028, now that the government has signed off on the plan. The Canada Energy Regulator recommended the approval at the end of January. The pipeline connects Chetwynd in northern B.C. to the U.S. border at Huntingdon in the south; the expansion is to add 300 million cubic feet per day to its transport capacity, or about 17 per cent. Talking point: Though the Westcoast pipeline doesn’t serve the Pacific coast directly, Enbridge wants to expand it to make sure that there’s enough capacity in its system to get gas to consumers in B.C.’s Lower Mainland and the U.S. Pacific Northwest once deliveries begin to a new liquefied natural gas export facility near Squamish. Enbridge’s application said it expects to start construction as early as this spring.
