Talking point: Trade between Canada and the EU has flourished since the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement provisionally took effect in 2017, with full ratification still pending approval from all members of the 27-nation bloc. A study by Global Affairs Canada found two-way trade had increased to $100 billion by 2021—about 34 per cent higher than in 2016. There is “still a lot we can do to make it even bigger,” Bellmann said while promoting Hannover Messe, an industrial tech trade show where Canada is a partner this year. The comments came shortly before U.S. President Donald Trump said he would impose 25 per cent tariffs on the EU.
