Talking point: The move follows Ottawa’s draft regulations on its long-anticipated emissions cap, which will require Canadian oil and gas producers to reduce their emissions 35 per cent below 2019 levels by 2032. The Business Council of Alberta warned the cap would make Canadian energy production more expensive and less competitive. Smith, meanwhile, argues the rules represent an unconstitutional overreach into provincial affairs. Smith introduced the  Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act in 2022, but its legality has not been tested in court.
