Talking point: These firms all have long-standing issues with Google’s market dominance in their respective industries. TripAdvisor and Yelp, which host reviews, allege that Google unfairly favours its own content. News Corp, the media company that also owns The Australian, says tech giants like Google take ad revenue away from publishers; its Australian arm called for the firm to be broken up in March. And, Oracle, which has had an ongoing copyright suit against Google since 2010, was part of the group that led to the European Commission fining the firm a record €4.3 billion in 2018. In order for the DoJ to have a case against Google, it’ll need evidence; competitors that have long had concerns about the search giant may be able to provide a surplus of it.
