Talking point: Investments in women-led companies still remain in the minority of funding recipients in Canada. The 2019 Canadian Women in Venture Report, published earlier in May, found that 85 per cent of Canadian VC money went to funds with no women partners. Similarly, my colleague Catherine also found that almost 90 per cent of Canadian investment deals since 2014 went to companies founded exclusively by men. Since StandUp’s launch in May 2017, it’s made seven investments; its portfolio includes Sampler, Bridgit Solutions, Coconut Software and Tealbook.
