In an open letter, over 400 climate scientists and academics called on Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland to drop a proposed tax credit for carbon-capture projects, saying it would “constitute a substantial new fossil-fuel subsidy.” Ottawa launched consultations on the credit in June 2021, and is expected to roll out a final policy sometime this year.
