Former senior federal official Matthew Mendelsohn and Springboard Policy principal Noah Zon are calling on governments and regulated sectors to consider factors other than price—such as wages, innovation and support for SMEs— in procurement, and for Ottawa to expand its Innovation Solutions Canada buying program. They also propose the creation of community-development financial institutions and funds to support local opportunities, and encouraging entrepreneurship by providing access to employment-like insurance. And they say governments should consider inclusion and sustainability in more funding decisions. (The Logic)
